More than 50 years into his illustrious career, Billy Joel is set to achieve a remarkable milestone: airing one of his concerts on a broadcast network for the very first time. The concert special, titled “The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden – The Greatest Arena Run of All Time,” was announced during a promotional spot on CBS during Super Bowl Sunday.
Joel’s journey began at Madison Square Garden on December 14, 1978, and now, on March 28, 2024, he will mark his 100th consecutive performance at this iconic New York City venue. The special is scheduled to air on Sunday, April 14, from 9 to 11 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Fans in the United States can also stream it live or on demand via Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscriptions. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will have access to watch it on demand in the U.S. the day after its debut.
Directed by Paul Dugdale and executive produced by Steve Cohen, Barry Ehrmann, and Paul Dugdale, this co-production of Sony Music Entertainment and Enliven Entertainment will showcase Joel’s unparalleled talent and the magic of his historic Madison Square Garden residency.
In addition to this milestone concert, Joel recently released his first new single in 17 years, “Turn the Lights Back On.” The song, co-written by Joel, Arthur Bacon, Wayne Hector, and Freddy Wexler, made an impressive debut on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, reaching No. 11 after just one day of airplay. Joel’s return to the pop scene has been met with excitement, and fans eagerly anticipate his upcoming performances.
As the Piano Man continues his residency at Madison Square Garden, he’s also slated to perform at select stadiums across the U.S., sharing the stage with music legends like Stevie Nicks and Sting. Joel’s legacy remains unmatched, and this 100th concert celebration is a testament to his enduring impact on the music world.
