The legendary Spice Girls recently graced the stage once again, reuniting for an impromptu performance during Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party. All five original members—Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Geri Halliwell-Turner (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm (Sporty Spice), and Melanie “Mel B” Brown (Scary Spice)—came together for a brief dance routine to their iconic 1997 hit, “Stop.” The celebration took place at the private club Oswald’s in London, and the surprise moment was captured on video by Victoria’s husband, David Beckham.
The joyous occasion marked a rare reunion for the Spice Girls, as they haven’t all shared a performance stage since the London Olympics in 2012. Victoria Beckham, who performed as Posh Spice in the group, also shared the video on her Instagram, captioning it with, “Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much! #SpiceUpYourLife.” Mel B (Scary Spice) reposted the clip on her Instagram Story, hinting at more exciting news to come: “About last night” and including the hashtag #tourdatescomingsoon.
The Spice Girls, formed in 1994, became a global phenomenon with their debut single, “Wannabe” in 1996. The catchy track spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 early in 1997 and remains one of the group’s nine U.K. No. 1 singles. Their debut album, “Spice,” spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and a whopping 15 weeks atop the Official U.K. Albums Chart. Although the group went on hiatus in 2000, they reunited for a global tour in 2007 and again in 2018-2019 (without Victoria Beckham). Now, with this recent surprise performance, fans are eagerly awaiting more news from the Spice Girls camp as they continue to celebrate their legacy of empowerment.
